Salt Creek Basin | Death Valley National Park

Technical: Canon 5D MK II. 17-40 @ 17mm. f13. ISO 100. 2.5 sec exposure.

Over the New Years holiday, I made a trip with two friends Alec Johnson and Robert Clark to Death Valley National Park. We had a terrific trip and could not have asked for better weather, outstanding color the entire trip. The above image is taken around sunset between Furnace Creek and Stovepipe Wells in about the only area in the park that there is water. The mountain range in the background is the Amargosa Range; in particular the Funeral Mountains. The white “lilypads” are salt deposits from the high evaporation rate, and are a predominant feature in this area.
